What is Lymphatic Drainage: The lymphatic drainage technique we use is a full body technique that treats the lymphatic system as a whole. The goal of this technique is to help encourage movement of lymph through the body, remove blockages and build up in the lymphatic system, and bolster the immune system by removing waste.
What to expect During and After your Session: Lymphatic drainage is primarily a stand alone technique that doesn't mix well with other massage techniques. It is a very fast and light technique that has a specific order to move the lymph through the system. The sessions starts with gentle lymphatic pumping at the joints where lymph nodes are located before moving on to the legs, abdomen, and arms. You'll then flip onto your stomach to work the back of the legs and back before the final flip when we'll work the face and neck. The light strokes of this technique draw interstitial fluid up to the skins surface and can feel sticky and cool to the touch. During and after this session you may feel chilled and that's a good sign that the technique is working. It is best to come into your session hydrated. After your lymphatic drainage session you'll want to take it easy and avoid strenuous exercise the rest of the day. The lymphatic system is hard at work and will need extra support to move congestion through the system plenty of water, healthy meals, and gentle stretching can support your system. Some folks can feel very fatigued after a session others have lots of energy. It's important to take the time to support your body in whatever way it needs after a session. Common responses to lymphatic drainage can be increased urination, mild headache, hunger, and fatigue.
How Can it help? Lymphatic Drainage is a powerful technique that can help reduce swelling and inflammation in the body, bolster the immune system, and provide relief after surgery. Those with benign lymphedema, edema, psoriasis, arthritis, post surgery swelling, and allergies can benefit greatly from the technique. Lymphatic Drainage is one of those techniques that can require multiple sessions a week. Purchasing a series of sessions is recommended if you are dealing with one of the above situations.
