What are they: A healing reaction occurs after a Reiki Session when the body begins to detox and get rid of toxins that have been held in the body. This is a really wonderful thing as it is a good sign that Reiki was exactly what your body needed to jump start the healing process. Common healing reaction symptoms are: mild headache, upset stomach, diarrhea, or fatigue. Typically healing reactions occur when there has been a long term chronic illness; however we are finding in our own practice that they are occurring more frequently than before and believe this is related to the chronic stress and anxiety we have all been under.
Why do I feel like shit and when will it end: Detoxing can be uncomfortable but at least you didn't have to do a week long juice cleanse to get there. A healing reaction typically resolves within a day or so and it is unlikely that you will experience a healing reaction as strong as the first again, if ever. It is helpful to drink plenty of water, eat well, and rest as needed in order to help support the body as it releases and flushes out toxins. At this point in time it is important to trust that your body knows what it needs to do in order to heal. It can be helpful to think of a healing reaction as the day after "leg day" at the gym, you know you've done a good work out because you can FEEL IT and in a day or so your going to feel better than before. Now what: So you've made it through your healing reaction and you may or may not be feeling ready to get back on the table for some more Reiki. That is ok and we're here whenever you're ready. If you do experience a healing reaction it is strongly suggested that you receive 2-3 additional Reiki Sessions in order to best support your body energetically so it can continue to do the healing needed. Remember the healing reaction usually only occurs after that first session and your body will only do exactly what it needs to do feel better long term. As always we are here to answer any questions you may have about Reiki and Healing Reactions.

Let's face it. Heading back to school can be stressful for everyone involved even during a normal year. Now with the pandemic and so much uncertainty around returning to school it can feel particularly overwhelming for Parents, Guardians, Caretakers, Teachers, and Kids or Teens. Here at True Blue Wellness we're looking for a way to help everyone out with the transitions to come.
Reiki can be an excellent way to help reduce stress, bolster the bodies immune system, and work on personal goals. Reiki energy is very gentle and nurturing and a full body treatment can induce a calming meditative state that can help promote focus and create ease when faced with transitions. Reiki is suitable for all ages and has no contraindications. CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle form of bodywork based in Osteopathic Medicine and has been utilized in the treatment of ADD/ADHD symptoms. Dr. Upledger found during his time studying at the University of Michigan that many children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD had the same restriction pattern at the base of their skull and if the ADD/ADHD was indeed caused by the restriction symptoms resolved over the course of treatment. That being said not ALL ADD/ADHD cases are linked to that restriction in the base of the skull but CranioSacral Therapy can still help with focus, memory, and offer relief for many symptoms or stress. Want to learn more about CranioSacral Therapy as a treatment option for ADD/ADHD check out this article. CST sessions are suitable for ages 9 and up. If you have a younger child you are interested in having treated I'd love to help you find a CranioSacral Therapist who has the training in pediatrics to treat ages 8 and under. Our Kids and Teen Sessions of Reiki and CranioSacral Therapy can be a great resource for those feeling the strain. Both Reiki and CranioSacral Therapy are extremely relaxing and can help support the body and brain during times of stress. The Kids and Teen Sessions are designed to be short and sweet and budget friendly and we would only charge for treatment time. For example if your child isn't quite ready to get on the table that first session and we spend most of the session getting to know each other and maybe demonstrating some techniques we would only charge for treatment time. For example you book a session but your child is only on the table for 10 minutes of treatment that session would only be $10 ($1/1minute).
I began studying Reiki in the Fall and fell in love with it. After my CST course I came in expecting there to be a big learning curve when it came to “feeling” what was going on when I was learning to palpate the CSR I was shocked with how easy it was to feel the Reiki Energy after my first class with Lourdes Gray at the John Gray Center for Reiki.
I chose to add Reiki to my practice because I was looking for a way to offer combined treatments of Reiki and CST techniques to those who are unable to tolerate a full CST session, such as those with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome who may have a cerebral spinal fluid leak. Due to certain physical ailments where a full body CST session would not be recommended click here to see what those contraindications are. Reiki has no contraindications and is suitable for everyone regardless of their physical condition. After my class I found that I was no longer dealing with the extreme fatigue that I’d grown accustomed too during my recovery from Post Concussion Syndrome. It came as a very subtle change over a couple weeks of self treatment and a work trip to Phoenix that should have wiped me out. I found instead that I wasn’t drained or getting the usual low grade headaches I’d grown accustomed too because of Post concussion syndrome but instead felt as I had before the injury. In addition to the personal benefits I was really pleased with how impactful it’s been during the CST sessions for my clients. Reiki is a natural energy that flows through a practitioner hands whenever those hands are in contact with a living thing (it’s great for plants and animals too!) I found the Reiki flowing most frequently during a CST technique known as a diaphragm release (what I think of as a hand sandwich) I found that the fascia was releasing much quicker and at times more dramatically I also felt that my hands had become more sensitive to the subtle movements of tissue release. Put simply, positive creative community is important. There is so much support and warmth already in this building and I’d love to share that with as many people as possible. Since my time working in remote Alaska with some seriously phenomenal people I’ve felt like I’ve been on a search for a similar upbeat, fun, active community of people in the creative world and I feel so grateful that I was able to find that at Studio 550 Community Art Center.
In my own life I’ve found that the combination of art and bodywork has a tremendous impact on the mental, emotional, and physical healing process I just wasn’t quite sure how to bring it all together in a way to offer to others but am very excited to be taking steps forward. At this time I’ve been working as a pottery instructor at Studio 550, making my own work, and working with CranioSacral Therapy and Reiki when a room became available at the center it made sense to take the next step in working on bringing both art and bodywork together. True Blue Wellness is located in the sunny studio 3 and on your way in you’ll get to stroll through the gallery filled with local artists, peek into the clay studio, snoop past the stained glass studio and by the time you reach the treatment room you’ll be brimming with inspiration. In addition to these great art studios there is also a movement studio available for yoga classes, social dance, and private parties. We look forward to seeing you there! |
